Barrier secures access at Mansfield Hospice

FAAC 620 BARRIER SECURES ACCESS TO HOSPICE

Two FAAC 620 automatic barriers have been installed at the John Eastwood Hospice
near Mansfield to control access to the visitor car park. Renowned for its long term
reliability, the FAAC 620 hydraulic barrier was the obvious choice to replace the
existing, non-functioning system.

FAAC approved installer, Mansfield Garage Doors & Gates, was commissioned to
design and install the automatic barrier system at the entry and exit points to allow
free, 24 hour access for visitors to the hospice. An access control system was
required to prevent the car park being used by visitors to the adjacent hospital which
charges for parking.

Having installed FAAC products for more than 20 years, Graham Kirk, managing
director of Mansfield Garage Doors & Gates had no hesitations in specifying the
FAAC 620 barrier system. “FAAC has always led the way when it comes to
automation technology and the 620 is no exception. It is fast and flexible without
compromising on safety and reliability”, says Kirk.

Using underground induction loops, the 620 barrier system can detect approaching
vehicles and automatically open the barrier to allow free entry. On exit, visitors are
required to enter a code, obtained from reception, into the keypad to activate the
barrier. The keypad can take up to 30 codes of four or six digits and the code can be
changed easily via the keypad.

Ideal for heavy but not continuous traffic, the 620 Standard has a 70% duty cycle and
is capable of supporting up to a 5 metre beam with an opening/closing speed of
approximately four seconds. For more demanding applications or for continuous use,
the 620 Rapid and Super Rapid versions boast opening/closing speeds of two
seconds and 0.8 seconds respectively. Electronic slowdown at the end of the
opening and closing cycle ensures safe and smooth operation, as well as protection
to the barrier mechanism.

With more than 40 years’ experience, FAAC is a world leader in gate and door
automation. The company has manufacturing and development facilities in Italy and
Ireland and distributes its products in more than 90 countries. Within the UK, FAAC
(UK) based in Basingstoke is the market leader in residential and commercial
markets, which it serves through a national network of 800 approved installers, all
trained to FAAC’s high standards.
