FAAC FORGE AHEAD
FAAC automate 10 metre slide gate
FAAC approved installer, Automatic Entry Systems, has recently completed its largest sliding
gate installation using a FAAC 844 three-phase operator. Spanning an opening of 10 metres,
the sliding gate provides access to the world’s largest independently owned forgemaster,
Sheffield Forgemasters International.
Having already completed several successful installations at the site, Automatic Entry Systems
was awarded a contract to carry out a further two this year. Although differing in size, both
installations are identically configured using one slide and one swing gate. This allows for the
slide gate to be used only when required for heavy works traffic, while the smaller four metre
swing gate controls access to the more frequent, regular traffic entering the site.
Jonanthan Peasegood, managing director at Automatic Entry Systems said: “Our relationship
with FAAC goes back 30 years and my father, Terry, was one of the first FAAC installers. For an
installation of this size, we required a highly robust operator which could meet the demands of
this application. The standard of FAAC’s equipment has always been first-class and the support
they offer is invaluable.”
Both cost-effective and efficient, FAAC’s 844 range of sliding gate operators are the ideal
solution for controlling gates in demanding applications. A high level of durability is achieved
through an oil-bath lubrication system which reduces the wear of the mechanical components
and ensures smooth running of the gate. Exceptional safety features, include a special twindisk,
anti-crushing clutch and adjustable torque settings to optimise the minimum force required
to operate the gate.
The swing gate is automated by two FAAC 400 SB operators which feature powerful hydraulics
and two highly-sensitive by-pass valves to ensure maximum anti-crushing protection. In the
event of power failure, both gates can be operated manually using the key-operated release
device. Operational efficiency is maximised with the help of the 455D control board which
provides a slowdown feature at the end of the opening and closing cycles. Access to both gates
is controlled by radio transmitters and push button stations in the security office.
With more than 40 year’s experience, FAAC is a world leader in gate and door automation. The
company has manufacturing and development facilities in Italy and Ireland and distributes its
products in more than 90 countries. Within the UK, FAAC (UK) based in Basingstoke is the
market leader in residential and commercial markets, which it serves through a national network
of approved installers, all trained to FAAC’s high standards.
